The
Dwarf Caiman
The dwarf caiman
is a South American relative of the
alligator. This mini meat eater is related to dinosaurs that walked the Earth
nearly 200 million years ago. Its larger cousin, the black caiman, was
once commonly found throughout the Amazon. Caimans
are now rare because poachers
have hunted them for their skins. |

The
Peccary
The small, piglike peccary
eats fruits, berries and insects. They are
often
a meal themselves for meat-eating foes such as the jaguar. But peccaries
have a keen sense of hearing and strong hind legs.
This helps them stay one
step ahead of hungry predators.
