Endangered Species

FLORIDA PANTHER

While some semblance of a cougar-like animal  will    probably
survive in the  Everglades,  the  pure  bloodline  of  an  animal
known as a Florida panther will probably be  extinct  in  a  few
years. The population dwindled to 30 cats by the 1990's.
Captive  breeding  has   been   unsuccessful,  though  8 Texas
cougars, a similar species,  were  sent  to  Florida  where  five
survived and gave birth to at least one litter.

Threats: Hunting and human development.
