Endangered Species

ASIAN ELEPHANTS

More than 100,000 Asian elephants may have existed  at  the start of the 20th century, but it’s estimated only  40,000 or so remain in the wild.
Most herds live in reduced habitat too small to support   them.
The elephants  then  raid  the  plantations  surrounding  them.

Threats:
Poaching,   reduced   habitat,   hunted   for   raiding plantations.
Bull  elephants  tend  to  be  more aggressive  and  do most of theraiding, so they are killed more often than cows.

The  result:   inbreeding  and  a    steady  downward  spiral  to extinction.
